Volunteering Activities with DSSF Pune

  • Teaching and engaging children in various activities inside the bus
    Running library in School-on-Wheels
  • Conducting surveys at communities in order to get details of the children that are not enrolled in schools
  • Organising events Eg: Republic day, Holi, Diwali, etc
  • Organising events for children, such as quiz, lectures, competitions, art camps, dance shows, etc.
  • Taking children out to nearby parks, zoo, bank, factory, etc. for learning and enjoyment. (Need prior planning with DSS teachers)
  • Training DSS staff e.g. computer training
  • Creating training modules/ delivering training to our staff on various topics
  • Helping with documentation and office management
  • Preparing Teaching material which will be used in site classes e.g. puppets, charts, flash cards, innovative teaching tools, etc.
  • Organising fundraising activities at own college or office.
  • Help in fundraising activities by manning DSS stalls at exhibitions in companies, malls, etc
  • Entering data into excel or software fields, from manual reports
  • Preparing reports, planning events, conducting meetings, etc
  • Translating reports and information submitted by DSS staff, from Marathi to English.
  • Taking photos of various events/ activities  and writing articles for blogs/ newsletter
  • Designing newsletters, e-mailers, posters, and other promotional material.

  • Volunteers can guide the students to perform the experiment with them followed by Q&A

Teaching
  • SSC board school subjects – Marathi medium /Semi- English and English medium
  • Syllabus can be shared in advance
  • Volunteers need to develop and deliver content
  • There can be separate teams for content development and delivery
Twice or Thrice a week
  • Help children with their daily homework
  • Help children in their studies so they are at age appropriate learning levels

One Time Activities
  • Monthly project on topics like fruits, vegetables, etc
  • Celebrating festivals
  • Celebrating national and international days like Youth Day, Independence Day, Republic Day etc.

Content Writing

  • Content creation for DSSF social media posts, blogs

Designing

  • Designing flyers, posters, mailers to be shared with all DSSF contacts – giving updates about projects, fund raising appeals etc.

Computer Training
(children and staff)

  • Teaching computers to children
  • Computer training for staff – word, excel, power point, google drive etc
  • Sessions on online safety and security

  • Children should inculcate age-appropriate computer skills
  • Increased efficiency of staff

Activities with children can be conducted on Saturdays except for days like 15th Aug, 26th Jan. Teaching school subjects to older children can be done on other days also
Timing
1 to 2 hour slots between 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm. Can be decided in coordination with DSSF.
Duration
45 mins to 1 hour. Fun activities can go up to 2 – 2.5 hours

Across PMC and PCMC. Let us know your preferred location and we will connect you to a nearby center.
Teaching Activity
We request volunteers to give us a commitment of 3 to 4 months (even if once/twice a week). It takes time to build rapport with children and plan for lessons, assessment etc.
